Monarch Mobility Ukraine Mobility Equipment Donation

On any other day the Monarch Mobility team would be busy testing and preparing scooters and powerchairs for delivery around the UK. As you’d expect, our vans are more than capable of transporting a typical day’s worth of orders to our customers. Yesterday, however, we were presented with a logistical challenge.

After watching events unfold in Ukraine, we were moved by media footage of people with disability issues being transported away from the fighting in wheelbarrows and shopping trolleys! Monarch Mobility directors Martin Sampson and David Leach knew they had to do something.

We learnt of a local aid project organised by the Halifax Ukrainian Club and The Leo Group (a Halifax based recycling company). They have pledged to send lorries with supplies to help the Ukrainian people who are fleeing the devastating effects of the invasion.

LOGISTICAL CHALLENGE

The idea to donate mobility equipment came from David’s wife Jane Leach who, with Martin Sampson, set about loading one of our long wheelbase transit vans with as many powerchairs and wheelchairs as possible. After a few attempts and a lot of head-scratching, they managed to squeeze 18 chairs into the space, amounting to £30,000 worth of equipment.

The Monarch Mobility donation was delivered to a charity location in Halifax on Tuesday afternoon. From there it will make its way to the Ukraine – a journey made more arduous thanks to despicable gangs who are targeting these relief runs to steal the goods inside! The donation will appear on the Charity website after it arrives in Ukraine.
